SOUTHWEST
SUPPORTS ETHANOL DEVELOPMENT
Cypress
Agri Energy of Shaunavon today announced their newly formed
alliance with Action Southwest . The two organizations have
partnered to help raise awareness of this 90 million litre ethanol
development and the benefits this new industry could bring to
the southwest region.
Cypress
Agri Energy has done their due diligence and is now seeking
funding to allow for the construction phase to begin. " Action
Southwest sees the impact the ethanol industry has had in the
US , estimations as high as $150 million a year for certain
regions. The economic impact of this plant could literally transform
our economy by creating demand for local goods and services,
stimulating additional local investment, generating tax revenues
locally and provincially, invigorating local grain markets and
added value to our products and services and so much more",
said Sandra Blyth Project Manager for Action Southwest .
"There
are other plants who are in the developmental stages, but we
know what it takes and we know what is needed for the development
of a successful, viable plant and Cypress Agri Energy has done
its work and we have all the resources that are necessary",
said Jack Salmon , President of Cypress Agri Energy . "A viable
plant requires a sufficient supply of water, gas, power, and
feedstock. All of which the plant will have in ample supply.
A good transportation system is also required and both road
and rail systems will be accessible to the plant. The only thing
missing is the remaining financing".
Cypress
Agri Energy has been working with the Saskatchewan Ethanol Development
Council, the provincial government and other ethanol project
developers to urge the federal government to provide financial
support for ethanol in Saskatchewan . Ethanol is growing rapidly
in other countries with 20 to 40% blends. Canada has just recently
proposed a 5% blend by 2010. With major car companies building
flex-fuel vehicles that can run on an 85% ethanol blend it won't
be long until Canada will have to catch up and Cypress Agri
Energy is more than a viable option to be considered.
"The
southwest region is about working together and supporting one
another. We , the southwest
economic alliance , see the
benefits this project could have for our communities, industries
and region and we will be working together in support of ethanol
for Southwest Saskatchewan ," said Anne Weisgerber , Action
Southwest Chairperson and Mayor of Maple Creek.
