Action Southwest Receives Award
July 17, 2005
On June 16, 2005 Action Southwest Business Networks Coalition and its numerous volunteers from across the region were recognized by the Saskatchewan Council for Community Development by receiving their Community Development Achievement of the Year Award. This award recognized Action Southwest as a project that is truly making a difference in Saskatchewan communities.
Sandra Blyth, Project Manager accepted the award on behalf of the project and said “Everyone who participated in this initiative should be very proud to receive such an honorable recognition, this award symbolizes the power of partnerships and that great things can be achieved in the southwest by working together”.
This broad-based regional initiative is the first of its kind in Saskatchewan. Action Southwest could not have received this award without its’ over 120 dedicated volunteers who have been at work shaping our region’s next steps in development. They have taken the opportunity to choose the future of our region by performing an in-depth analysis of all industries within the region and developing over 30 projects and action plans to begin growing our industries and the Southwest. The details of this award winning project and those who participated are outlined in their final report “Engaging Industry Innovation” and can be accessed at www.actionsouthwest.com.
The project is now moving into phase II which will be all about action! A select number of the 30 plus projects will be slated for implementation in the fall, following a regional commencement ceremony. Where, once again, the people of the southwest will be asked to take part and begin moving these projects into action. Action Southwest is asking all individuals and organizations in the southwest to assist them by reviewing the final report and learning about the needs of the region and offering their assistance. “We have numerous projects to tackle in this next phase, and if the region could take a little time this summer to review the report and determine where they or their organizations could lend a hand it would really get things moving, “ said Blyth.
