Ethanol Project

Cypress Agri Energy (CAE) is a corporation formed to pursue the development of a 90-million litre wheat to ethanol plant in the Shaunavon area of Southwest Saskatchewan

Action Southwest has formed a partnership with Cypress Agri Energy to assist in ensuring that Southwest Saskatchewan producers and region benefit from the development of an ethanol facility in Shaunavon.

This partnership will work on developing a communication strategy that will create awareness within the region and beyond.  Local key stakeholders will be educated on the numerous opportunities this will generate in the area and for the agriculture industry. The goal is to source potential key stakeholders and build awareness.

The first meeting of the new " Ethanol Action Team " was on June 15, 2006 where a general concept evolved to host an event that would target potential stakeholders as well as the engagement of a number of other marketing tactics that would frame the economic benefits of this project for the industry, region and province.

Status:  On August 16th, 2006 representatives from across the southwest banding together to support the CAE project and begin efforts to host Saskatchewan's first ever ethanol symposium.

On October 12, 2006 the Ethanol Action Team hosted the Saskatchewan Ethanol Symposium - A New Future for the Southwest Producer in Shaunavon Saskatchewan.  The event was attended by people from across Canada and presented world class experts on the ethanol industry.  The event was a huge success for the Southwest region and again, represented what can be achieved by working together as a region.

Current Status:

A series of 14 equity drive meetings were held across the region from September 19 to 28 th where an Offering Memorandum was presented to purchase Class A Common Shares in Cypress Agri Energy. On October 16 th Community Futures Southwest provided $150,000 to the ethanol project totaling 75,000 shares.
