Business Retention and Expansion International Award of Excellence 2006

Action Southwest Business Networks Coalition was the proud recipient of the Business Retention and Expansion International Award of Excellence of 2006 under the Multi-Community Program - under 200,000 category.  The award was presented at the BREI 13th Annual Conference in Omaha, Nebraska, May 17 - 19, 2006.

Business Retention and Expansion International (BREI) is a nonprofit professional association of economic development professionals who are working for the advancement of business retention and expansion (BR&E) as an economic development strategy for communities.

BREI annually, for over 10 years, recognizes BR&E programs. Members are invited to nominate innovative, effective and exemplary BR&E programs in the following areas:

  1. Community Program - over 50,000

  2. Community Program - under 50,000

  3. Multi-Community Program - under 200,000

  4. Multi-Community Program - over 200,000

  5. Statewide/Province Wide Program

Outstanding Economic Development Initiative of 2006 Award

On February 22, 2006 the Saskatchewan Economic Developer’s Association (SEDA) recognized Action Southwest Business Networks Coalition, as a “strategic economic alliance” that has assumed a leading role in developing a regional economy that has led to measurable success.

The Saskatchewan Economic Developers' Association (SEDA) has operated successfully since 1983 as the provincial association for those who practice and support community economic development. As an independent, non-governmental organization, SEDA contributes to the province of Saskatchewan through development and delivery of a number of successful, well-established programs and services.

The purpose of the Saskatchewan Economic Developers' Association is to increase the capacity of communities to grow and direct their economic futures.

SEDA has a broad and varied membership base covering Regional Economic Development Authorities, Rural Development Corporations, Community Futures Development Corporations, Municipalities, Tourism groups, Financial Institutions and Organizations, Crown Corporations, Businesses and Business Organizations, and Government and other agencies involved in economic development in Saskatchewan.

Community Development Achievement 2005 Award

On June 16, 2005 A the Saskatchewan Council for Community Development (SCCD) recognized Action Southwest Business Networks Coalition and its numerous volunteers from across the region as a project that is truly making a difference in Saskatchewan communities.

SCCD plays a unique role in Saskatchewan. Their mandate is to develop strong, viable, Saskatchewan communities. SCCD offers capacity building programs so that communities will have the skills to solve their own problems, develop a vision and strategic plan for the future and be able to implement it.

SCCD's vision is that Saskatchewan communities would collaborate to develop a rich social environment, economic opportunities and an optimum way of life.

Objectives:

  • Create an awareness of community development
  • Provide capacity building opportunities that enable communities to work collaboratively to determine their future
  • Develop member consensus on issues and act as a spokesperson when necessary
  • Facilitate information exchange
  • Promote and disseminate rural research and policy analysis
