Rosetown

Airport Study Shows Positives

An economic analysis was recently conducted on the Rosetown airport.  The study showed that if as few as 10 Rosetown residents commuted by air to Fort McMurray would have a considerable effect on Rosetown and its businesses.  Further investigations are looking at the possibility of regular flights to the Alberta oil sands centre from Rosetown.

Regional

The communities of Shaunavon and Eastend, along with RMs of Arlington, White Valley, Bone Creek, and Grassy Creek are partnering to investigate the feasibility of developing a regional landfill site.

The Saskatchewan Landing regional water pipeline project set to supply Kyle, Elrose, Rosetown and neighbouring rural municipalities is slated to receive $10,190,000 in federal funding if it can meet a number of conditions one of which is environmental approval.

The Department of Highways has provided $25.3 million this year to improve and re-align its major highways in southwestern Saskatchewan.  Some of the area's major projects include work on Highway 1 near Herbert and Gull Lake; along Highway 4 near Wymark; and a bridge replacement near Maple Creek.  In addition, the department is working in partnership with Action Southwest, Southwest Transportation Planning Council and other Highway stakeholders on a study of the region's transportation network and how it's economic impacts.  Study is scheduled for release in early 2008.
