Elrose
Raises
Funds to Revitalize Sports Complex
The community of Elrose has been
busy fundraising to revitalize their sports complex. Keeping
recreation programs running is essential to rural communities
and thus far, Elrose has spent approximately $110,000 on upgrades
to the hockey and curling rinks and the swimming pool.
Rosetown
Airport
Study Shows Positives
An economic analysis was recently
conducted on the Rosetown airport. The study showed that
if as few as 10 Rosetown residents commuted by air to Fort McMurray
would have a considerable effect on Rosetown and its businesses.
Further investigations are looking at the possibility of regular
flights to the Alberta oil sands centre from Rosetown.
Shaunavon
Seniors
Complex In the Works
Dr.
John Beveridge, a previous resident of the Southwest, will begin
construction on a new senior's assisted-living complex in Shaunavon
this spring. The nine units will be built next to Avondale
Park.
Ethanol
Plant Seeks Investors
Cypress
Agri-Energy is looking for producers to invest in their $150
million ethanol plant. The plant would be able to convert
150 million litres of wheat into ethanol each year and create
approximately 40 full-time jobs. An Offering Memorandum

Develops
More Residential Lots
A
block of new residential lots is being planned in the community
of Maple Creek. Sites being considered are just south
of Dixon Avenue or the southeast corner by the driving range.

The
Town of Mossbank has attracted 24 new families to their community.
The new families are increasing the communities business
and school enrolment.

Celebrates
New Multi-Million dollar Plant
White
Mud Resources celebrated a sod turning to begin construction
of a multi-million dollar metakaolin producing plant. The plant
should be operating by fall 2007 and employ 25 - 26 people.
Herbert
Officially
Opens Health Complex
The
people of Herbert celebrated the official opening of their local
integrated health complex October 4th. The facility houses acute
care services, home care, community health services and long-term
care for residents under one roof.
Swift
Current
New
Power Engineering Facility
The
Cypress Hills Regional College is going to be proceeding with
developing a new power engineering lab facility. The City
will be donating the current hospital's power plant building
to the college once the hospital has been demolished. This is
a very positive step for the College to enhance its power engineering
course from level four to level three programming.
Swift
Current Regional Airport Receives Funding
Swift
Current's regional airport recently received $40,000 from the
Department of Highways to upgrade the lighting and asphalt at
the facility. The City of Swift Current will be providing
matching dollars towards the project as well.
Cypress
Regional Hospital Grand Opening
The
official grand opening of the Cypress Regional Hospital was
held on September 20 th.
Regional
The
communities of Shaunavon and Eastend, along with RMs of Arlington,
White Valley, Bone Creek, and Grassy Creek are partnering to
investigate the feasibility of developing a regional landfill
site.
The
Saskatchewan Landing regional water pipeline project set to
supply Kyle, Elrose, Rosetown and neighbouring rural municipalities
is slated to receive $10,190,000 in federal funding if it can
meet a number of conditions one of which is environmental approval.
The
Department of Highways has provided $25.3 million this year
to improve and re-align its major highways in southwestern Saskatchewan.
Some of the area's major projects include work on Highway 1
near Herbert and Gull Lake; along Highway 4 near Wymark; and
a bridge replacement near Maple Creek. In addition, the
department is working in partnership with Action Southwest,
Southwest Transportation Planning Council and other Highway
stakeholders on a study of the region's transportation network
and how it's economic impacts. Study is scheduled for
release in early 2008.
